Great Spotted Woodpecker, Fabric art Collage with Thread Painting
This art piece started by an inspiration of an image from Google images. The actual drawing in itself required time as I expanded on its shading areas. The drawing of course is but a guide since as I am applying various layers of fabric in different shapes/sizes/textures/tints bringing it to life, it is natural that there is movement from the original concept. Paper and fabric are not the same substance. Once the magic of all the fabric combinations and applications are done and the transformation is complete, the next step is deciding on the background. For this art piece, I happened to have some satiny finish drapery fabric already consisting of embroidery that provided the illusion of birch trees.
The final step in completing the art piece is to utilize a thread painting technique, layering the stitching and filling in shapes and motifs to further embellish and apply shading where needed.
This art piece is stretched over a 8x10 inch canvas within a floating pine wood frame.
