Horse Black, Fabric art Collage with Thread Painting
Ebony started by a drawing and as I expanded on the various applications of layers of fabric in different shapes/sizes/textures/tints bringing him to life, the natural movements needed within his mane took me away from the original concept on paper. I allow the fabric to influence my positioning during the defining process. Once the transformation is complete, the next step is deciding on the artwork background.
For this textile art piece, I decided on denim as the background to provide a contemporary feel once framed.
The final step in completing the art piece is to utilize a thread painting technique, layering the stitching and filling in shapes and motifs to further embellish and apply shading where needed.
