Rooster and Hen, Paired offering, Fabric art Collage with Thread Painting
These art pieces started by a drawing of the Rooster followed by his Hen companion. The drawings of course are but a guide since I am applying various layers of fabric in different shapes/sizes/textures/tints bringing it to life, it is natural that there is movement from the original concept. Paper and fabric are not the same substance. Once the magic of all the fabric combinations and applications are done and the transformation is complete, the next step is deciding on the background. For these art pieces, I happened to have a fabric consisting of a wheat pattern which felt absolutely correct.
The final step in completing the art piece is to utilize a thread painting technique, layering the stitching and filling in shapes and motifs to further embellish and apply shading where needed.
